Printable: Wild Canids!

The youngest on our homestead has developed a recent fascination with coyotes! In my attempts to be a responsive parent, I make a conscious effort to explore interests expressed by the kids. This offered me the perfect opportunity to develop a little lesson for the kids on Wild Canids - including Grey Wolves, Red Foxes, Coyotes, and African Painted Dogs!

What is a “Wild Canid,” anyways? Well, our furry friends of the dog/canine variety are included in the mammal family of Canidae. The individual members of this family are referred to as Canids. Since we are discussing Canids of the wild variety, instead of our domestic canid friends, the title “Wild Canid,” is appropriate.

Of course, there are plenty of Wild Canids of various types out there! We are only discussing four different types in this mini lesson with activities. For each type of canid there is an info sheet, coloring page, and writing practice page. There is also a silhouette matching activity and word search!

At the time of writing, lesson available as a digital download through Etsy.
